The 16th of June is Father's Day and Bloomsday this year

This is just a reminder that Sunday 16th of June is Father's Day in Ireland and other countries across the world. If you’ve got a dad, a stepdad, or a father figure in your life, this is your chance to send him some love. Dads are influential forces and do a lot behind the scenes, and they definitely deserve a day of appreciation. Take a look here at some apt postcards to help you do this effortlessly.

A little-known fact beyond Dublin is that Bloomsday also falls on Sunday this year.  It's pretty rare for both to land on the same day, so it's a great opportunity to celebrate in style with one of our easy-to-send unique postcards. Bloomsday is a celebration of James Joyce’s epic novel Ulysses, which unfolds on the 16th of June. The day is named after Leopold Bloom, the main character of the book, and Joyce fans worldwide mark the day by reading excerpts, dressing up in period costumes, and retracing Bloom’s fictional journey through Dublin. Full disclosure: I know Ulysses is a literary masterpiece that every self-respecting Dubliner needs to attempt, but I just haven't quite mustered up the brain power and perseverance to read it yet. One day, though!

If you have bravely tackled Ulysses, why not celebrate the day with a little literary flair of your own by sending a Bloomsday postcard to a fellow Joyce enthusiast.  Please don't be tempted to send someone a copycat U.P.: up This cryptic postcard message sent Denis Breen into a tiz but our postcards are for spreading joy and having fun - keep it light, positive, and celebratory with a favourite quote or fun fact, or just a warm greeting to brighten someone’s day.

And to all the Dads and father figures out there, whatever you are up to on Sunday 16th, have a blooming great Father's Day!
